Prahlad Jani Lives Without Food and Water
This has got to be the father of all unsolved Indian mysteries. Prahlad Jani, known as Mataji is an Indian sadhu who claims has lived without food and water since 1940. He believed that goddess Amba sustains him and provides him a liquid sustenance that allowing him to live without food or drink. Since the 1970s, he lived as a hermit in a cave near the Gujarati temple of Ambaji. He wakes up at 4 am every day spending most of his time meditating.
Medical science tells us that human beings rarely survive more than a week without water and a couple of months without food. Practitioners of extreme starvation diets can cause serious damage to their bodies than even leading to death. The observational studies of Jani have been conducted twice, one in 2003 and second in 2010, both involving Dr.Sudhir Shah a neurologist in Ahmedabad. In both cases, the investigators confirmed Jani's ability to survive healthily without food and water during the testing periods.
First Test in 2003, Dr.Sudhir Shah and other physicians observed Jani for 10 days. He stayed in a sealed room without anything. After 10 days, a hospital spokesperson said that Jani was physically normal. His weight dropped slightly and noted that a hole in the palate was an abnormal condition. In 2010, from 22 April for 15 days, Jani was again observed by Dr. Sudhir Shah and a team of 35 researchers from the Indian. After fifteen days of observation without food, water, and go to the toilet, Jani was reported as normal even better health than someone half his age. DIPAS stated in 2010 that further studies were planned.
