Jack the Ripper is the most famous unsolved serial killer in the world. Spread terror around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. Most of the victims were prostitutes who lived and worked in the slums, whose bodies were mutilated and their throats slashed. The removal organs of victims led to the proposal that the killer knew anatomical or surgical knowledge. Since then his crimes have been investigated by experts, yet no one could figure out the killer. So did Jack the Ripper really exist? Or is he just a media invention?

Name Jack the Ripper originated in a letter written by someone claiming the murderer, but then it famous because of the media at that time. A police investigation collected eleven separate murders between 3 April 1888 and 13 February 1891 under the name “Whitechapel murders”. Five of eleven victims are known as canonical five. First, Mary Ann Nichols was (40) discovered at 03.45 am on Friday 31 August 1888. Her throat had been cut twice and she had a deep jagged wound across the left side of the stomach. Eight days later, Annie Chapman (47) was discovered around 6am. Her throat was severed by two cuts, the abdomen was slashed entirely open and uterus had been removed.
Elizabeth Stride (45), Catherine Eddowes (46) were killed in the early morning of Sunday 30 September 1888. Stride’s artery on the left side of the neck was cut. Eddowes’s throat also was cut, the abdomen was ripped and her left kidney and the major part of the uterus had been removed. Two weeks later parcel containing half a human kidney preserved in wine was sent to George Lusk, the head of a vigilance committee in Whitechapel, and a note that was signed “Catch me when you can”. November 9 the fifth victim Kelly was mutilated on the bed in her room. Her throat had been and the abdomen almost emptied of its organs.
The police, newspaper, and others received hundreds of letters that claimed the killer, but the Ripper’s identity was never solved. Even now, there are now over one hundred hypotheses about the Ripper’s identity but it never solved and he remains one of the most notorious figures in history.
